The Payson Unified School District services Payson and the surrounding communities in the Rim Country.

Enrollment in 2005 was 2800 students in 6 schools. The 3 elementary schools are grades k-5. The schools are: Julia Randall, Payson Elementary, and Frontier Elementary. The secondary schools are: Rim Country Middle School (grades 6-8), and Payson High School (grades 9-12) and the Payson Center For Success (grades 10-12, ages 16-21).

Julia Randall operates a special needs pre-school.

The statewide Aims test places Payson at or above the county and state averages in almost every grade and content area tested.

Payson is also home to a 2-year community college campus Eastern Arizona.
